Welcome Julia Chester, BEMO's Second Hire of 2020!

Julia is our latest addition to the BEMO team by way of Alaska! She will work closely with Brandon as an Inbound Marketer, bringing fresh content to your fingertips!

A little about Julia:

In 2015, Julia went on what she thought would be a quick trip to Alaska to “get out of dodge”. However, her plans for a 17-day trip went out the window as she quickly fell in love with both the place and with her now husband, Chris (they were married last September). Julia sings in the town band where she loves to pay homage to classics by the likes of Etta James and Otis Redding while also giving them a bit of a Rock n’ Roll twist. In the summers, Julia volunteers as a Wildland Firefighter and spends her free time hiking, reading, gardening and foraging for wild plants and flowers. Last year she grew some epic cabbages:

She spends her winters snow-machining, cross-country skiing and lately, skijoring (sometimes even successfully!) with her 1-year old Malamute named Leto. She writes about her off-grid Alaskan adventures in a blog called Beneath the Borealis.

Some fun facts:

  • What's your favorite movie? It’s pretty mood dependent. If I need to laugh then “Trainwreck” or anything with Amy Schumer. “The Big Lebowski” never disappoints and “Amelie” always makes me smile.
  • What was the best concert you ever attended? Paul Simon at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. I may or may not have cried the entire show (hint: I did).
  • What's the best meal you've ever had? Every time we have Pancake Saturday it’s the best meal I’ve ever had.
  • Who inspires you?  People who are inspired. I love just seeing people geek out on whatever they are really into. Justina Blackney has been inspiring me lately with her art and design (check out #facethefoliage on Instagram) and use of color. My neighbors constantly inspire me to try to find new and improved ways to live where we do and make use of what we have. The band Lake Street Dive makes any moment better. Anyone fully committing to what they are doing, that’s who inspires me.
